Hello, and welcome to our page on "how to" submit a course to The American Psychotherapy Association.
Check back often, because we're continually improving!
As a professional with experience and the drive to educate others, you are The Subject Matter Expert. In general, the process of course publication at the APA follows the following steps:
- Course is submitted, complete.
- Preliminary review by APA marketing and continuing education staff to determine if course is marketable and usable. Plaigurism and other conflicts are investigated in this step.
- Contract is written.
- Course material and test is sent for peer review.
- Edits on course and test made by Subject Matter Expert
- Course sent for final peer approval.
- Course formatted and published by APA.
- Payment to subject matter expert, based upon terms in contract.
Below are downloads to documents which we have prepared that will help you develop a course for APA. Please check back often for the latest version, or sign up for our mailing list to be notified of changes to these manuals.
All course submissions should be sent to the director of online education: CAO@americanpsychotherapy.com - please put "course submission" as part of the subject line.
Current Submissions:
APA is currently paying $500 per module accepted by peer review for publishing as online continuing education.
Each module must contain:
- An outline/syllabus of course structure
- Objectives
- Test covering objectives
- Content elaborating on objectives so that test questions can be answered.
- Citation/Reference pages.
- Main Content must be at least:
- 5,000 words, or approximately 20 pages.
- If multimedia is included, each 10 minutes of usable video can count as a full page. Every 20 minutes of usable audio should count as a full page.
- Text content can be completely eliminated if the subject matter expert provides at least 200 minutes of usable video or at least 400 minutes of usable audio, which meets the standards of covering objectives and test questions, and includes a course outline.
Please contact the Online Education Coordinator, CAO@americanpsychotherapy.com, if you have any questions. In special cases, APA can negotiate these terms.
