Three Minute Survey:
Raising the APA Standards for Diplomate Status

As a member of The American Psychotherapy Association, we want your ideas for raising the standards for Diplomate Status during three 1-year phases. Each year the standards will be increased, Phase I, Phase II and Phase III. Please take the time to review the questions and put your ideas directly on this form and submit it by August 31. A brief description of each phase:

  • Phase I: A Grandfather time period where current members are required to meet the minimum standards for Diplomate Status with The American Psychotherapy Association.
  • Phase II: Begins one year later. Besides meeting the requirements from Phase I, additional elevated standards will be met.
  • Phase III: The new applicant would apply for Diplomate Status by meeting requirements of Phase I, and Phase II, along with passing a three part examination with a grade of 75% or greater.
  • Phase IV: Successful completion of Ethics and Psychotherapy I courses. Successful completion of comprehensive three part examination or graduation from an approved Psychotherapy Institute.
