Certified Forensic Consultant, CFC Information

The certification offered this year is the Certified Forensic Consultant, CFCSM, which includes the live course and exam.  The CFC credential is an excellent way to supplement your income since some mental health professionals earn up to $500 an hour as an expert witness in judicial proceedings.

The judicial process may be unfamiliar and intimidating.  The CFC course will teach you both ethics and jurisprudence and prepare you to be successful in court.

The CFC course covers the following:

  • Adhering to professional ethics
  • Following proper documentation procedures
  • Writing error-proof reports
  • Preparing interrogatories and deposition testimony; assisting counsel in the same
  • Presenting testimonial evidence and opinions
  • Providing courtroom testimony
  • Comporting with jurisdictional rules, including the Federal Rules of Evidence (FRE) and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Evidence (FRCPE)
  • Preparing a professional resume/curriculum vitae, retainer agreements, contracts and other documents necessary for your protection

There are two ways to become a Certified Forensic Consultant:

  • Training Course & Examination:  The CFC training course is offered at either our National or Regional conferences.  The course features two days of classroom instruction, including interactive role-playing, followed by a comprehensive exam.
  • Proctored Examination:  If a candidate already possesses adequate knowledge of forensic consultations and the legal system, as demonstrated by sufficient previous experience or documentation from a recognized education source.
